Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course is located at 655 North Canfield Niles Road in Youngstown, (Austintown) Ohio. The casino part of the property opened on September 17th and racing began at 12:45pm on November 24th. Upon opening the 100,000 square foot casino floor offered 850 gaming machines with another 650 authorized for an expected build-out of 1,500 VLT's or video lottery terminals.
VLT's act just like a slot and many carry the same names as you would see in Las Vegas or Atlantic City. The difference is that instead of generating outcomes from an internal chip, the results are returned at near light speed from a central lottery server. On the casino floor players would never know the difference. This is gaming at its best. The casino floor is non-smoking but a small covered and heated patio provides some action for those who like to smoke while they play.
Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course offers several dining options as well as a sports bar and entertainment lounge. The simulcast lounge is open year round with up to 40 races on the card Friday and Saturday. The thoroughbred racetrack is one mile in length with live races throughout the season with meets 4 days a week. The track is dark Sunday, Thursday, and Friday. The grandstand includes over 1,000 enclosed trackview seats. First post is 12:45pm with the last of 8 races posting at 4pm all regular race days. The license transfer to Austintown included a 10-year authorization.
The live racing season here runs from October through April.
